Our Family's 5 Favourite Beaches in Tofino
We spend a lot of time in Tofino and these are the beaches we keep coming back to year after year.
Mackenzie Beach
This is probably our kids' favourite beach. We always head over to what we call the "Mushroom Kingdom" on the little island at the left side of the beach. The kids love climbing the trees, exploring the trails, and checking out the viewpoints.
Mackenzie Beach is pretty special to us because my husband and I both used to work at Middle Beach Lodge, which is right on this beach. We were married there too, so every time we visit it brings back a lot of memories.
Tonquin Beach
Tonquin is not always on our list but love it every time we go there. It's close to town but has a completely different feel than the bigger beaches. We like packing a lunch and spending a few hours down there.
North Chesterman Beach & South Chesterman Beach
Our fav place to go for a beach walk. It’s fun to check out the fancy houses and you can see two different swell directions on South and North.
Cox Bay
Cox Bay is our go to spot to watch the surfers. Plus we also love hiking up to the viewpoints on either side of the beach. Sunset Point has amazing views over Cox Bay and Rosie Bay. The viewpoint overlooking Rosie Bay is actually where my husband and I got engaged.
Long Beach
Long Beach always seems to be our first stop when we're heading into Tofino. By that point the kids are usually done with the drive and need to get out and move around for a bit.
I love sitting on the big rocks and watching the surfers while the kids run around on the beach. Even after all these years, we still end up stopping here almost every trip.
Heading to Tofino?
If you're camping on the coast, Alberni Adventure Gear is located in Port Alberni, your last stop before Tofino and Ucluelet. We rent camping, backpacking, and beach gear so you can spend less time packing and more time actually enjoying the trip.
